Microsoft Urges Its Users To Switch Word To "Safe Mode"

word to safe modeMicrosoft Corp. is advising Word users to run the application in "safe mode" to help guard against a Trojan program that surfaced recently, although security experts today said there still appears little cause for alarm.

The Trojan surfaced last Thursday and arrives buried in a Word file attached to an e-mail message. It secretly installs software on a user's PC that could be used to execute remote commands, download other malware or monitor keystrokes and gather passwords, among other mischief.

For the Trojan to do its work, however, users must first be tricked into opening the Word attachment. And the incidents reported so far suggest that hackers are still using the Trojan in a very targeted fashion rather than sending it in mass e-mail.

Web Site Promotion Myths; What You Should Know.

target googleThe hit myth: the Web is full of hype and the use of confusing statistics and one should be particularly wary of Other Web Sites quoting hits, where a hit is one single file download. One person looking at a single page on some web-sites may generate 30 hits.

A web-site with say 30,000 hits a month may only be having 10 or twenty people a day looking at it.

Some web site designers, not AldoMedia, deliberately put lots of images and clickable buttons on to their pages just to boost the "hit rate". Some very unscrupulous people feed their Clients the hit figures for their site, never bothering to explain to the poor Client that visitors numbers are not the same thing. Now that you have read this you will be wise to that. Ask the web site "how many unique hosts visit your site in a day?"

No one can promise you will get millions of visitors to your site, very few do. Forget 'the potential to reach millions', possible yes but HIGHLY unlikely.

10 - 100 visitors a day to your site from the Search Engines is reasonable, for each targeted search term you want marketed.

Why do we say only 10 visitors a day? We have now seen so many log files and site counters from Other Sites that we know it to be true. Its not in either Your or Our long term interest to claim that your web site will get millions of visitors a day from the Search Engines alone when we know it to be improbable.

By working hard to get it listed in the Directories, advertising on other portal Web Sites and by Traditional methods such as Newspapers or the Trade Press, it is possible to increase visitor numbers sometimes dramatically, until in the case of ebay your site gains a life of its own. People will want to exchange links with you, the Portal Web-Sites will ask to you for a link from your site, the crawlers will send traffic to you, word will spread both locally and on the WWW that 'here is a site to look at'.

If you're trying to generate revenue with your web site, you need visitors, and that's where SEO comes in. SEO is important because of the amount of competition you have. When you're competing in a worldwide market, you need to stand out. Let us help you.

Online sales expected to rise 20 percent in 2006

Online sales are expected to rise 20 percent this year to $211 billion, with pet supplies and cosmetics experiencing leading growth, according to a report to be published on Tuesday.

Internet has more than doubled in the three years through 2006 as more retailers offer consistent prices on their Web sites and in their brick-and-mortar outlets, and use gift cards and loyalty programs to increase sales, according to Forrester Research and Shop.org's annual State of Retailing Online study.

Excluding travel 2006 sales are expected to increase 22 percent to $138 billion.

"Online is a key growth driver for retail overall," said Shop.org Executive Director Scott Silverman. "It's going to be a bellwether for overall retail."

Gift cards offered by nearly half of all online retailers and loyalty programs offered by a third have helped increase sales, the study found. Additionally, greater integration between retailers' traditional stores and their Web sites have alleviated pricing confusion and increased loyalty, Silverman said.

Simulataneously Close All Open Windows On Your System.

Have you ever been on a troubleshooting expedition and needed to shut down all the running applications on a system before you could proceed? More than likely, you probably accessed each window and manually shut down the application.

You can shut down all windows at once.

Here is how to implement this trick:

1.) While pressing the [Ctrl] key, successively click each of the task icons on the taskbar.

2.) Right-click the last task icon, and choose Close Group.
When you select the Close Group command, Windows XP initiates a standard exit procedure for each open application.
